2 Reasons to Make Sure Your Wedding Video is Shot in 4K even if it's delivered in HD

Everyone who is looking for a wedding videographer these days has probably asked themselves whether they need a 4K wedding video. There is a lot of information out there about wedding videos, but at Falling Tide Creative, we like to keep things simple.

I have two clear reasons to be sure your wedding video is shot in 4K. Whether it’s shot by us, or your perfect match takes you elsewhere, take a look at this and use it to help you get the perfect Oregon Wedding Video.

Before we go on, what is 4K? Strap in, there’s numbers ahead!

Back in the days of DVDs, we had standard definition, which is 720 pixels across and 576 pixels high. That gave us the wonderful almost-square TV look from the 90’s and before (back to the 50’s!). Next, we had HD, which changed the game and gave us the wide-screen. HD was 1280x720 pixels at first, and then became the 1920x1080 that gives us that 1080P we’re familiar with.

If you took four 1080P TVs arranged 2x2, you get 4K resolution. This is a leap from 1920x1080 up to 3840x2160, which is a huge change! This means more pixels, bigger files, but so much more to love in your video. What are the two main reasons it’s great to shoot in 4K, even if your Eugene Wedding Video is going to be delivered in 1080P?

1. Punching In

We call it punching in when we zoom in on the same shot for a closer look. This is possible when we shoot in 4K and deliver in HD, since 4K Resolution has four times the resolution of regular 1080P HD. What does this mean for your wedding film? It means every shot can be used wide, or zoomed in for double the range from a regular sized lens without losing any image quality. This is a really cool way to maximize the coverage without being too in-your-face on the day. As pretty as it would be, we don’t want to be shooting with a four-foot long lens to get the shot we need.

Finishing in 4K helps us punch in to get the shot while still being discreet and out of the way, letting you enjoy your wedding day as much as possible. If we spend less time changing lenses, we capture more of the spontaneous magical moments that help us tell your story.

2. Stabilize

Punching in isn’t just to reframe the shot either! The extra room can help us stabilize shots in post, reducing jarring camera shaking to help make your wedding video cinematic and smooth. This is especially important on the dance floor, or when we need to react quickly to capture a joyful moment. The extra resolution means more data to track, and punching in lets us stabilize the software in post

Conclusion

There you have it! Two simple reasons to make sure your wedding is shot in 4K. It’s a terrific creative tool that can help you get the best wedding video possible.

At the end of the day though, it’s not the bells and whistles that make your video great, it’s your story and the team telling it. If you would like to learn more about us at Falling Tide Creative, please feel free to drop us a line!
